Tucker Carlson Defends Country Club That Barred a Jewish Toddler

Economist and commentator Catherine Rampell has pushed back after Tucker Carlson, on his streaming show, characterized her father’s 1990 campaign against discriminatory Palm Beach country clubs as motivated by hatred.

Carlson recalled meeting Rampell at Fox News and described her father as having “sued” a club that wouldn’t admit him. “A club should have the right to hang out with whoever you want,” Carlson said, calling her account “repulsive.”

Rampell clarified the facts: her father launched a publicity campaign — not a lawsuit — after her then-four-year-old brother was excluded from a preschool classmate’s birthday party because the Bath and Tennis Club did not admit Jews, even children. No legal action was taken.

Rampell noted that Carlson’s framing included several coded references, including his exchange with his brother about a group “fixated” on WASPs, and his description of her as a “liberal neocon” — a term sometimes used as a Jewish pejorative. Carlson did not use the word “Jews” during the discussion.
