The Rabbi of the Boca Raton Synagogue was aware of the potential for increasing the Jewish community in South Florida and started talks with the South Palm Beach County Leadership about opening up a Yeshiva High School in Boca Raton. He thought it would be a huge benefit to those who are interested and looking to establish themselves as part of a Jewish community in this region.
Rabbi Brander formed The Committee to Form a Yeshiva High School in 1997 and appointed Rabbi Perry Tirschwell as Headmaster. They envisioned a school that would blend the intensity of a yeshiva with the broad-based education of an exploratory high school.
The institution officially opened its doors to 41 new students in ninth and tenth grade in September 1998. The institution was started by a group of parents, educators, and members of the community on the Boca Raton Synagogue site who wanted to provide their children with an opportunity for a Jewish secular education, much to the delight of the community.
The Katz Yeshiva High School of South Florida grew from a few classrooms to a 60,000 square foot facility in just the span of just a few years years. The school currently has an advanced STEM lab, two large Beit Midrash grounds and basketball courts, as well as an exercise facility and spectacular gym.
