Snorkeling in Boca Raton FL
With its subtropical climate, Florida is the ideal destination for snorkeling all year long. Whether you’re an experienced diver or not, there’s always a beautiful reef to explore!
Boca Raton’s Red Reef Park is one of my favorite places for snorkeling. This 67-acre beach park has a rock reef right off the shore in four to six feet of water and is teeming with marine life.
Red Reef Park
One of Boca Raton’s best beach parks is Red Reef Park, which spans 67 acres and is situated between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a popular destination for surf fishing, snorkeling, and swimming.
There are plenty of amenities at this pristine beach, including restrooms and showers as well as barbecue areas. In addition, lifeguards are on duty seven days a week and all year round to keep visitors safe.
A popular spot for snorkeling in Boca Raton FL, Red Reef Park features an extensive set of natural coral rocks that are accessible off the shore in four to six feet of water. These red rocks are home to blue tangs, parrotfish, sergeant majors and an occasional barracuda.
A new recreational snorkel reef was recently constructed at Red Reef Park to enhance the existing snorkeling trail for beachgoers. The project involved construction of 16 additional artificial reef modules made from limestone rock. The new reef is expected to attract fish species like those that currently live in the park.
South Inlet Park
South Inlet Park is a fantastic place to go snorkeling in Boca Raton FL. It has plenty of secluded spots to practice your skills, and there are also lots of shelling opportunities along the shoreline.
You can also try scuba diving from this area and you can even do some fishing while you’re there. The waters here are calm and crystal clear, and you’ll be able to see a variety of sea life.
Another popular destination for snorkeling in Boca Raton FL is Red Reef Park, which is located on North Ocean Boulevard. This park has some very nice amenities, including a playground and barbecue areas.
Its 850-foot beach is also ADA accessible, and you’ll have access to restrooms, showers, and picnic pavilions. It’s a great spot to relax with your loved ones or go solo, and it never gets too crowded.
Half Moon Preserve in Miami
Snorkeling is one of the most popular activities to do while on vacation in Florida. There are several great snorkeling spots not far from Boca Raton FL where you can get some quality time in the water and see all kinds of amazing sea life.
Half Moon Preserve is a great place to take the family and enjoy some peace and quiet in the middle of nature. It is a large preserve that features 80 acres of lush hammocks and tropical forest.
A few trails are open for hiking, biking and horseback riding. This preserve is also a good spot for bird watching.
There are a few wrecks here as well as some shallow reefs that can be explored by snorkelers. The best time to go is 3-4 hours after the incoming tide, which brings in fresh water and allows for maximum visibility.
